Story
Hi friends!!
This is Marcelo! I’m starting this GoFundMe for my momma, Lupita Molina, who’s been putting up a brave fight against ovarian cancer since 2022.
On May 20th, I flew back to El Salvador to take care of her. That same day, she underwent a high-risk surgery in the hope that it would relieve a bowel obstruction. Unfortunately, we learned that the cancer has spread throughout her intestines, which puts it outside the realm of surgical treatment.
She already completed 30 rounds of chemotherapy, and her oncologist believes she’s no longer a candidate for further treatment.
As many of you know, I lost my dad to multiple myeloma last year. Even while undergoing her own cancer treatments, my mom cared for him with such tenderness and strength. Now, we’re doing the same for her.
We’re still holding onto hope, but for now, my mom is entering palliative care. She will no longer eat solid food; instead, all of her nutrients will be delivered through a central vein (parenteral nutrition)—a sterile and complex process. She also has a nasogastric tube to help drain bile, a fluid we all produce but that she can no longer expel on her own.
Due to the complexity of her care needs and her delicate condition, she requires nursing support at home. One bag of parenteral nutrition—which she uses 24/7, a bag daily—costs 116. There are also medications, equipment, doctor’s visits, and ongoing hospital expenses. Unfortunately, she doesn’t have private insurance, and her social security does not cover the level of palliative care she now needs.
I would be beyond grateful if anyone who wants to shower my momma with some love could make ANY contribution. Whether it’s 1, 20, 50, 116 (a bag of food), or 130 (a 24-hour shift nurse)—ANYTHING at all goes a looong way because we’re currently facing monthly expenses of around 8,000.
She’s the strongest person I know, and even after all that she’s going through, she’s still more worried about others than herself (“yes, mom! I ate already!”). She’s still finding joy in the little things: a hummingbird outside her window, savoring a few licks of an ice-pop, and getting her nails painted like the queen she truly is.
Let’s keep her surrounded by dignity, kindness, and endless love. Thank you for being part of her story—and mine.
With all my heart,
Marcelo
